Cooperative Jigsaw and Cooperative Card activities are promising strategies for enhancing vocabulary retention and recall among English language learners. The Jigsaw strategy involves students becoming “experts” on specific vocabulary words or phrases, allowing them to master meanings before teaching these terms to peers, which reinforces their understanding and fosters a sense of community and interdependence. Cooperative Card activities further support vocabulary acquisition by encouraging collaboration and strengthening communication skills as students work together to match words with definitions or use them in sentences. This workshop will guide participants through developing two cooperative activities based on jigsaw and cooperative vocabulary cards which can help in promoting recall of the vocabulary. Moreover, in this workshop, we will develop a last activity to promote retention to show that those activities could help students to store the vocabulary in long-term memory.
