SUMMARY:💡 Developing Thinking Skills through CLIL: A Pathway to Meaningful English Learning
DESCRIPTION:The EventThe Speaker\n\n(Learn about the event on these tabs ⬆️. Register below ⬇️) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThis presentation explores how thinking skills—both lower and higher order—can enhance English language learning within CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) environments. It highlights practical strategies for integrating cognitive tasks into language lessons\, fostering deeper understanding\, student autonomy\, and critical engagement. The session also shares classroom examples and reflections on how thinking routines can be adapted to different proficiency levels\, encouraging meaningful communication and content mastery. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nLaura Pachajoa currently works as an English teacher at Colegio San Francisco Javier\, where she designs and delivers engaging lessons based on the national curriculum. “I create didactic materials\, support students’ individual learning needs\, and foster a positive classroom environment.” Previously\, she worked as an English assistant at Kumon (Unidad Palermo – Pasto)\, helping students strengthen their English skills through personalized guidance and structured practice. During her academic practicum at I.E.M. Artemio Mendoza Carvajal and I.E.M. Heraldo Romero Sánchez\, she gained hands-on experience in planning lessons\, managing classrooms\, and applying effective language teaching strategies tailored to students’ levels and contexts. \n\n\n\nShe graduated from Universidad de Nariño with a Bachelor’s Degree in Foreign Languages with an Emphasis in English (2019–2024). Additionally\, she completed a diploma course in CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) at Universidad de La Sabana\, which strengthened her skills in teaching English through content-based approaches.

SUMMARY:LEC 💡 Metalinguistic Feedback to Foster the Writing Skill Through Task Activities: A Teaching Portfolio
DESCRIPTION:The EventThe Speaker\n\n(Learn about the event on these tabs ⬆️. Register below ⬇️) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nIn Colombia\, English is a mandatory subject in all academic institutions. Despite national policies requiring students to reach a B1 English level by the end of secondary school\, many students still struggle with writing skills\, showing frequent grammar\, spelling\, punctuation\, cohesion\, and coherence issues. To address this\, our proposal focuses on applying Metalinguistic Feedback as a key strategy for improving writing in B1 English students from a language center in Pasto. \n\n\n\nThrough 16 lesson plans based on Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT)\, students will receive metalinguistic feedback on their writing tasks\, allowing them to recognize and correct their mistakes while developing greater language awareness. The progress and outcomes will be documented in a teaching portfolio\, as a reflective tool to assess the strategy’s effectiveness. \n\n\n\nThis research aims to demonstrate how metalinguistic feedback can improve writing\, enhance learning self-regulation\, and contribute to better academic outcomes in English education. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nVanessa Buesaquillo and Angie Jimenez hold a BA English and Spanish and are currently MA students in Teaching English and Spanish as Foreign Languages at Universidad de Nariño \n\n\n\nBoth teachers have worked at Champagnat School ( Ipiales) and Nuestra Señora de las Lajas School (Pasto) in primary and secondary levels.

SUMMARY:LEC 💡 E-Portfolios: An Alternative to Enhance Willingness to Communicate and Self-Efficacy in EFL Students
DESCRIPTION:The EventThe Speaker\n\n(Learn about the event on these tabs ⬆️. Register below ⬇️) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThis study explores the use of E-portfolios to enhance willingness to communicate (WTC) and self-efficacy (SE) in EFL students at the University of Nariño. Despite theoretical emphasis on communicative tasks\, practical implementation often falls short. This research seeks to bridge this gap by assessing the impact of E-portfolios on students’ WTC and SE. By comparing pre- and post-intervention results between control and experimental groups\, the study aims to provide evidence for E-portfolios as effective tools in fostering communication and confidence in language learning. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nSantiago holds a BA in English and French from the University of Nariño. Julieth holds an BA in Spanish and English being a distinguished graduate and both professors are master’s candidates in Teaching English and Spanish as Foreign Languages at the same university. Both pursue the enrichement of their languages knowledge and their teaching skills by participating in seminars\, workshops and symposiums. \n\n\n\nJulieth works as a Spanish and English professor at the University of Nariño and has also taught at Mariana University and the Languages Center from the University of Nariño. \n\n\n\nSantiago currently works as a professor in the Department of Linguistics and Languages of the University of Nariño. His knowledge and his passion for teaching English have made him a well-known teacher among this community. Moreover\, he worked as a teacher assistant in the Amity Institute Insternship program in the U.S.; as an English teacher at Mariana University; and as an interpreter for the Nariño Governor’s Office.

SUMMARY:LEC 💡 Neuropsychological Bases of Learning
DESCRIPTION:The EventThe Speaker\n\n(Learn about the event on these tabs ⬆️. Register below ⬇️) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nThe neuropsychological bases of learning encompass a wide range of neural and cognitive processes that occur within the brain. Understanding these processes is essential for improving educational strategies\, diagnosing and treating learning-related disorders\, and advancing our knowledge on human cognition. Studying the neuropsychological bases of learning English provides insights into the cognitive and neural mechanisms underlying language acquisition and use. It can have practical implications for language education\, assessment\, and the development of interventions to enhance language learning outcomes. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nLeidy Magaly has a Bachelor’s degree in English and French from the University of Nariño and a Master’s degree in Neuroscience from the International University of La Rioja (UNIR). \n\n\n\nShe is an English and French teacher at the University of Nariño.
